John P. Fitzgerald has received the Director's Award for Distinguished Service from the U.S. Trustee Program. He is a U.S. trustee in Boston, MA, and monitors bankruptcy cases. Michael F. Flaherty associate justice, Boston Municipal Court. Judge Flaherty was a sole practitioner in South Boston, focusing on criminal defense work. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives for 24 years and as commissioner of the Boston Zoning Commission. He is a member of the Hundred Club of Massachusetts, for families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. He received the Massachusetts Bar Association's "Legislator of the Year" award in 1976, 1977, and 1985, the only lawmaker to receive that award three times. - Thomas Weihing
Thomas J. Weihing won one of the largest malpractice verdicts ever rendered by a Bridgeport, CT, jury, in a case against Yale-New Haven Hospital. The defendant was ordered to pay 3.3 million to Mr. Weihing's client, the widow of a Stratford man who died 16 hours after being discharged from the hospital.(Winter, 2001-2002 Alumni Newsletter)

- James Parker
James S. Parker was honored for 40 years of federal service at the Social Security 2001 ors Award Ceremony in Baltimore, MD. Judge Parker has been a United States administrative law judge since 1991 and currently works in the Office of Hearings and Appeals in Providence, RI. He began his civilian employment with the federal government in 1962 as an investigator with the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Textiles and Furs. Joyce London Alexander was awarded the Buffalo Soldier Award from the
Massachusetts Minority State Police Officers' Association, Inc.,
recognizing her as the first African-American female chief U.S. magistrate
judge and a pioneer in the federal judiciary. She has also received the
Lee F. Jackson Achievement Award from the Urban League of Eastern
Massachusetts, Inc. She received an Outstanding Service Award from the
National Bar Association Judicial Council. She was the presiding officer
at the annual awards luncheon and was selected as the organization?s

Henry J. Hogan a partner at Hogan and McDonald, appeared with Professor Michael Scharf on "News Night" on New England Cable News, discussing the use of civilian trials and military tribunals to try Osama bin Laden and other terrorists. He also appeared on the New England Cable News news program explaining military tribunals for the prosecution of terrorists. Lieutenant Colonel Hogan serves in the Third Legal Support Organization in Boston, an Army Reserve unit that provides legal services to Army Reserve units throughout New England. Peter C. DiGangi circuit justice, Probate and Family Court. Judge DiGangi practiced for more than 20 years in Salem and Beverly, focusing on family law. Before that, he was an assistant district attorney in Kings County, Brooklyn, NY. He co-founded the Essex County Probate and Family Court Conciliation Program, a pro bono legal service that seeks to resolve cases without litigation. Daniel R. Deja a retired Michigan trial court judge, is currently working as court administration teamleader in Bangladesh on a World Bank-funded judicial reform project entitled Legal and Judicial CapacityBuilding Project. Judge Deja received a master of judicial studies degree in 1999 from the University of Nevada/NationalJudicial College. He served as a judge in Michigan for 14 years before retiring in 1998. The project in Bangladesh, throughthe IRIS Center of the University of Maryland, involves working with the government of Bangladesh to bring modern casemanagement and court administration principles into their courts. Working initially in two pilot districtcourts and the Supreme Court, the project will expand to 19 more courts over the next five years. One objectiveis to train a core group of Bangladeshi lawyers and judges who will be able to replicate what has been donein the pilot courts and the Supreme Court.(Fall, 2002)

He was named the "Citizen of the Year" by a local newspaper. Both awards recognized his service as president of the Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth World Series, Inc., and his successful efforts to bring the national World Series for 16-year-old boys to Virginia. He lives in Purcellville, VA, and maintains a solo practice in Leesburg, focusing on business advice, real estate transactions and employment law. Boston, MA. He served as a panelist at the Harvard Defenders 50th

for Justice, Inc., a nonprofit group of attorneys managing the appointment
of private lawyers to represent indigent defendants in criminal cases in

John R. Salsberg was interviewed on "News Night" on New England Cable News
after a jury acquitted his client of two counts of first-degree murder in
Commonwealth v. Kyle Bryant. He was also interviewed on New England Cable
News as co-chair of Suffolk Lawyers for Justice when court-appointed
attorneys in Massachusetts declined new cases until their overdue bills

She was featured in an article by the New York Times News Service that discussed the documentary.

Paul J. Sahovey was counsel for the defendant in Lavecchia v.
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, in which the Massachusetts
Supreme Judicial Court affirmed a Superior Court decision. The Superior
Court had ruled that the two-year statute of limitations on personal
injury claims against the MBTA applies to all claims, regardless of
whether the injury took place during activity related to transportation or
on other MBTA property. The plaintiff had argued that injury during a non-
transportation-related activity should fall under the state's three-year
statute of limitations for injuries on a public way. Mr. Sahovey is
assistant general counsel for the MBTA.

prosecutor of the year by the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association. An

career criminal division, prosecuting repeat criminal offenders, many of them violent ex-convicts. He has achieved a 95-percent trial conviction
rate over the past 10 years. This year he was also selected attorney of the
year by his office, the 18th Judicial Circuit, which covers Seminole and

of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). The Austin, TX-based ACFE is the
world's largest provider of anti-fraud education and information and

Association has been identified as the "premier financial sleuthing
organization" and has been cited for its efforts against fraud by media
such as the U.S. News & World Report, the New York Times, CNN, CNBC,
Fortune, "20-20" on ABC TV, and "60 Minutes" on CBS News.
Mr.Dean received the 2001 Teaching Excellence Award in Criminal Justice
from Northeastern University, Boston, MA. A 14-year, part-time instructor,

Linda A. Harvey was the subject of articles about her win in Sallen v. Corinthians, the first major test of the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, which appeared in newspapers including the Washington Post and the National Law Journal. Ms. Harvey represented a Brookline, MA, resident whose use of the domain name, Corinthians.com, was challenged by the owner of a Brazilian soccer team. The US District Court for the District of Massachusetts ruled that an aggrieved domain-name holder may seek relief in a federal court, regardless as to whether or not the holder of the trademark is a U.S. citizen or registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Paula H. Noe practices collaborative family law in Brookline, MA, where
she has lived for more than 25 years. She is president-elect of the
Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council (www.massclc.org), an organization

and business cases without litigation and with respect and dignity. She
has been practicing family law since 1987 and has served on the faculty of
MCLE, Massachusetts Bar Association, and Boston Bar Association seminars
on collaborative law and other topics. While practicing as a litigator,
she represented the husband in the precedent-setting case, AZ v. BZ, which
involved the custody of frozen embryos during a divorce. In that case,
she prevailed at trial, and the decision was upheld by the Massachusetts
Supreme Judicial Court.

- Joel Berner
Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Joel J. Berner has been awarded the Bronze
Star for his exemplary meritorious achievement and service in a combat
zone, following a seven-month tour of duty in Kuwait and southern Iraq.
As a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps, he is assigned as the
staff judge advocate of the 804th Medical Brigade, Devens, MA. He was
called to active duty in February 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi
Freedom and arrived in Kuwait on the first day of the war. His unit was
responsible for command and control of all Army medical assets in the
combat theater. The Bronze Star recognized his expertise in resolving
multiple high-level issues in drafting a policy that permitted civilian
contractors in the theater of operations access to Army medical services,
for assisting in the resolution of issues raised by the Kuwaiti Ministry
of Health, for providing legal services to more than 5,000 soldiers and
commanders in split-based operations, and for providing briefings to
medical personnel regarding the obligation of American forces under the
Geneva conventions to treat wounded Iraqi POW's and Iraqi civilians. He
is legal counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Correction and lives
with his family in Reading.

Affordable Housing Committee and has been instrumental in increasing

He also spoke to homicide prosecutors for the City of Kiev about homicide prosecutions in the United States.
