Judge Outlaw’s career as a lawyer and on the bench has been marked by a consistent commitment to public service. In 1961 Judge Outlaw was appointed to the Probation Staff of the Suffolk Superior Court and created a drug and alcohol dependent probation program, the first of its kind. In 1980, he was appointed Chairman of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and in 1981 an Associate Justice of the Dorchester District Court. Judge Outlaw has been a trustee of the law school for 25 years, and in 2007 was named its first African American President.
