John O’Brien graduated first in his class, and has been a school leader ever since. O’Brien has worked tirelessly to maintain the school’s unique independence, while gaining national recognition from the Association of American Law Schools, forming the Consortium for Innovative Legal Education, and attracting five Supreme Court justices as guest lecturers. Referred to as “the dean of deans” by Justice Antonin Scalia, O’Brien has held the position since 1988, the longest tenure of any law school dean in the country.
