Students are encouraged to investigate scholarships from outside sources including libraries, employers and civic organizations. Additional scholarship search engines are available at www.finaid.org.

ABA Law Student Division - Events & Competitions

This site is a general link for ABA sponsored competitions, writing contests, scholarships and other opportunities.  Awards, deadlines and requirements will vary.


Abbott and Fenner Scholarship

This scholarship award is based on the submission of an essay on the following topic:
Describe your educational career and life goals.  Explain your plan for achieving these goals.  Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals.

Scholarship award: $1,000

Vital Impact Education Scholarships for Women Over 35

Vital Impact awards education scholarships up to $2,000 with the purpose of encouraging women's professional development to gain the education and training they need to make career changes.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:  you are a women age 35 or older, you are enrolled in a Massachusetts school, you reside in Massachusetts and are a U.S. citizen, you are committed to making a career change, you are able to use the scholarship within one year of award notification which occur in June 2016.

Scholarship award:  $2,000

Applications and Deadline:  Application details are available online.  The application process opens February 1, 2015 and the deadline is June 15, 2016.


Expert Institute Third Annual Legal Writing Scholarship

In recognition of the importance of online legal writing, The Expert Institute is offering a $2,000 scholarship for the best legal blog post written by a law student on the topic of expert witnesses.To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit a 1,000 to 2,500 word blog-style article on the use of expert witnesses in litigation.

Scholarship award:  $2,000

Brown, PC Tax and Business Law Scholarships

Two scholarships are being offered by Brown, PC.  Both are available for second or third year law students, with a demonstrated interest in either tax law or business law. 

Scholarship awards:  $500 each

Applications and Deadline:  Application details available online: Tax Law Scholarship, Business Law Scholarship.  The deadline for both scholarships is May 31, 2016.


Stanley R. Arnold Scholarship

This scholarship, sponsored by the New England State and Local Tax Forum, is a one-time $3,000 award for a full or part-time student enrolled in any MST, J.D. or LL.M. program within the New England region who demonstrate an involvement in or commitment to the state tax field.  Special considerations will be given to those who have worked or are working to improve relations between private and government sectors. 

Scholarship award:  $3,000

Adler, Pollack & Sheehan Diversity Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $10,000 to a minority student entering his or her first year of law school.  Applicants must be: a member of a diverse group (for example, African American, American Indian, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Gay/Lesbian, or other minority group); entering their first year at an ABA accredited U.S. law school as a full-time student (part-time student applications are not accepted); be a permanent resident of Massachusetts or Rhode Island; demonstrate strong academic achievement, financial need, and commitment to the community; have a desire to work and reside in Massachusetts or Rhode Island upon graduation; and have a vision of their contributions to the profession and community after graduation.

Scholarship award:  $10,000

Empowering Women in Law Scholarship

This scholarship is available exclusively to women studying law.  Applicants will have successfully completed at least one semester of law school but will not yet have graduated by fall 2017.  Applications are judged primarily on academic achievement, school & community activities, and demonstrated leadership abilities.

Scholarship award:  $1,500
