New England Law - Financial Literacy
Financial wellbeing is a topic that is being discussed across all spectrums of today’s society. Starting at the elementary school level and through retirement, financial education can prove to be helpful. The Office of Financial Aid is pleased to announce starting with the 2011 – 2012 academic year we will be sponsoring a Financial Literacy Program. The program will offer guidance on a variety of topics, from credit basics to loan repayment, arming you with the skills to make sound decisions to ensure a successful financial future. Whether you consider yourself a financial whiz or someone who “doesn’t do numbers” – plan to participate by attending the financial literacy sessions – it can’t hurt to pick up a new tip or two.
As we embark on this new initiative, we will be soliciting feedback from session attendees. If you have suggestions on how we can make this program a helpful tool for you please complete the session evaluations.
Sessions will be presented by a variety of members from the financial aid community. As sessions occur, the website will be updated with supplementary resources for you to refer back to over time.
We look forward to seeing you there. Be sure to RSVP through the calendar below!

Becoming Credit Wise and Credit Safe: Understanding Credit Reporting and Credit Scoring
Credit reporting and credit scoring can affect our lives in many ways. You may know the basics about credit reporting and credit scoring, but are you truly “credit-wise"? Future employers might check credit reports before making a job offer; once credit is harmed it might be a long and costly process to repair, even if it is destroyed by identity theft. Attend this presentation to learn the importance of developing and maintaining good credit and hear the specifics of credit reporting and learn what behaviors impact your credit score – both positively and negatively. Join us to find out how to ensure your credit is where you want it to be after law school! RSVP
Discussion will include tactics for creating a personal expense budget. RSVP
Discussion will include how to determine what education tax credits you are eligible for. RSVP
Discussion will review loan repayment plan options (standard, graduated, extended, IBR, etc.), the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, how to determine if consolidation is right for you and what your rights and responsibilities are in the repayment process. Attending this session is strongly recommended for students graduating in May 2012. RSVP
