Micah Berman, J.D.
Director
Micah Berman is the director of the Center for Public Health and Tobacco Policy. He is also an assistant professor at New England Law, where he teaches Health Law, Public Health Law, Torts, Products Liability, and Criminal Law. Prior to joining the New England faculty in 2008, he established and directed the Tobacco Public Policy Center at Capital University Law School, a legal resource center for tobacco control advocates in Ohio. He also served as a visiting professor and adjunct professor at Capital University Law School. His previous experience includes working as federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice, as an associate at the law firm of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP, and as the political director of a U.S. Senate campaign. Micah received a J.D. with distinction from Stanford Law School, where he was managing editor of the Stanford Law Review. He received a B.A., summa cum laude with highest honors in Public Policy, from Brandeis University. In 2008, the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) appointed Micah to the NIH Director’s Council of Public Representatives.
Marlo Miura, M.A., J.D.
Assistant Director
Marlo Miura is the assistant director of the Center for Public Health and Tobacco Policy. Prior to joining the Center, she worked as a staff attorney with the Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) at Northeastern University School of Law. Her research at PHAI focused on tobacco policy issues and childhood obesity and was funded by organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Cancer Institute, the National Policy & Legal Analysis Network to Prevent Childhood Obesity, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Tobacco Control Legal Consortium. Prior to her work at PHAI, Marlo was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Karen N. Blondin in Honolulu, Hawaii. She received a J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where she was managing editor of the UCLA Law Review and articles editor and comments editor of the Pacific Basin Law Journal. She received an M.A. and B.A. in English from Stanford University.
Matthew Fuerst
Center Administrator
Matthew Fuerst is the center administrator for the Center for Public Health and Tobacco Policy. He was previously the program director for the Tobacco Public Policy Center at Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. He also previously served as director of community development for Road of Life: Cancer Prevention for Children. He received a B.A. in Economics from The Ohio State University.
