LL.M. in Advanced Legal Studies
Program Overview
Do you have a law degree from an institution outside of the United States and want to learn more about the American legal system? Then LL.M. in Advanced Legal Studies is the right program for you.
An application fee of $100 (U.S.), and all supporting materials must be received by the law school by March 15 of the year a student seeks admission. If your first language is not English or if you did not earn a law degree at an institution where the primary language of instruction is English, you must take and receive a score of 600 (250 on the computer test or 100 on the internet test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Register with LSAC, then Apply
We recommend that applicants register with LSAC's LL.M. Credential Assembly Service. For a fee, LSAC will collect, authenticate and distribute a student's university records and TOEFL score, if required. Applicants must still complete New England Law | Boston's application and submit all required application fees. The LSAC service serves only to authenticate non-United States or non-Canadian credentials that are needed in addition to a completed admission application.
Applicants must comply with United States immigration laws regarding the study of law and are responsible for obtaining any required visas.
Program Details
- Degree Granted: master of laws degree (LL.M.)
- Length of Study: two consecutive semesters as a full time student, starting in fall
- Required Credits:
- 24 credit hours (approximately ten courses)
- 2.0 minimum grade point average

- Comparative Legal Institutions (one-semester course)
- Substantial Writing Requirement (may be satisfied in conjunction with a seminar or independent study)
Law degree or equivalent from a university or law school outside the United States

Nonimmigrant Student Requirements
New England Law | Boston is authorized under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students.
Nonimmigrant students should be aware that any visa or entry requirements of the United States government are the responsibility of the student.
In addition to entry requirements, nonimmigrant entrants from all countries may also be required to register with the federal government.
