Outside Scholarships
Applications for scholarships are available in the financial aid office
The MCCA and UNCF are pleased to announce the continuation of an initiative designed to support entering first year law students. The Lloyd M. Johnson Jr. Scholarship Program will provide 10 scholarships at $10,000 per year, up to three years; runners-up will recieve a one time gift of $10,000. The MCCA also intends to foster mentoring opportunities for the selected scholars as well as assist in the placement of winners in summer internship positions. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are finanically disadvantaged and who have demonstrated high academic achievement during their undergraduate career, community service and leadership qualities. Applicants must also have an interest in corporate law and diversity. Deadline for receipt of applications is June 1, 2008.
Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers
Scholarship Foundation
Three scholarships are available to apply for from the Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers: the MAWL Scholarship, the Honorable Sheila B. McGovern Scholarship and the Carol DiMaiti Award. These scholarships are offered to students entering their second and third year of law school and are based on financial need, academic ability and each candidate's personal statement. One application is sufficient to apply for all three awards; applications are due no later than May 19, 2008.
Adler Pollack & Sheehan Diversity Scholarship
AP&S, as part of its Diversity Plan, has established the AP&S Diversity Scholarship, a $10,000 award for a minority student entering his or her first year of law school. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist a needy minority student, who has demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the community, to attend law school and successfully enter the practice of law. Applicants must be a member of a diverse group with permanent residence in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, desire to work and reside in Massachusetts or Rhode Island upon graduation and a vision of contributions to the profession and community after graduation. The scholarship is to be used exclusively for law school tuition and related expenses. Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2008.
AES Engineering Services 2008 Scholarships
The consulting firm of AES Engineers is offering a $500 scholarship award to students, based on their < 1000 word response to either one of the following essay questions:
- What do you consider to be the single most important problem that is facing society today? Why?
- Why are you a good candidate to receive this award?
The deadline for entry is September 15, 2008; submissions should be sent to scholarships@aesengineers.com.
KeyBank $2500 Monthly Scholarship
KeyBank is giving away a $2500 monthly scholarship from September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2008. Entries made at the KeyBank website are good until the end of the sweepstakes. Graduate students and parents of graduate students are eligible to apply. There are no GPA or essay requirements for this scholarship.
Adler Pollock & Sheehan Diversity Scholarship
For the 2008-09 academic year, Adler Pollack & Sheehan will be awarding a $10,000 scholarship to a minority student entering his or her first year of law school. The applicant must be a permanent resident in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, who has demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to community. Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2008. Through the AP&S Scholarship and other endeavors, AP&S is making a concerted effort to diversify and enrich the firm and the profession. Information about last year's recipient is available here.
Abbott and Fenner $1000 Scholarship
The Abbott and Fenner Scholarships are available to all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution, between the ages of 16 and 30. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on one of the two topics below and your submissions must be sent to A&F by email at scholarships@abbottandfenner.com
Discuss, in less than 1000 words, what you consider to be the single most important societal problem? Why? How has your education contributed to who you are today or how will it affect who you will become? In less than 1000 words, discuss this question.Submission deadline is June 20, 2008.
