Current Awareness Assistance

Alert Services, Legal News, & Blawgs
Reference Librarians can help you sign up for alert services from Westlaw, Lexis, Google, and BNA databases (US Law Weekly, Criminal Law Reporter, Family Law Reporter, and Labor Law, e.g.)

The library subscribes to The Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) database, which provides access to legal journal articles, often before they are available on Lexis and Westlaw. Faculty can obtain an authorization code from a Reference librarian, and then set up a customized SmartCILP search for regular notification.

Do you read Jurist to keep up with legal news, Legal Blawgs or Law Professor Blogs? We can help you identify helpful blogs in your area of interest, and install a Bloglines notifier on your desktop to help with painless current awareness.

Library Acquisitions
Sign up to be automatically notified when new books are received in areas which interest you, based on the monthly publication of Recent Library Acquisitions.

Symposia and Conferences
Selected announcements of seminars, symposia, conferences, requests for articles and requests for research proposals are updated monthly.
The Legal Scholarship Blog, produced by the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the University of Washington School of Law, also has a good listing of calls for papers, conferences and workshops.

Writing Competitions
Faculty may want to recommend that students who have produced exemplary writings for their classes submit them to be considered in one of the law student writing competitions open to our students.
