Organizations

  • World Trade Organization - The WTO is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations.
  • Center for Trade Policy Studies - The center publishes briefing papers, policy analyses, and books and hosts frequent policy forums and conferences on the full range of trade policy issues.
  • United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) - UNCITRAL is the core legal body within the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. The Commission was tasked by the General Assembly to further the progressive harmonization and unification of the law of international trade.
  • International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) - is an independent intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to examine ways of harmonizing and coordinating the private law of States and of groups of States, and to prepare gradually for the adoption by States of uniform rules of private law.
  • Organization of American States (OAS) - The OAS is providing technical support in economic integration efforts, working with the Inter-American Development Bank and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean to create a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) agreement by 2005, as mandated under the Summit of the Americas process. The Trade Unit's primary function is to support the OAS member states in matters related to trade policy and economic integration and, in particular, with their efforts to negotiate a FTAA.
  • International Monetary Fund - The IMF is an international organization of 183 member countries, established to promote international monetary cooperation, exchange stability, and orderly exchange arrangements; to foster economic growth and high levels of employment; and to provide temporary financial assistance to countries to help ease balance of payments adjustment.
  • The Federation of International Trade Associations - FITA, founded in 1984, fosters international trade by strengthening the role of local, regional, and national associations throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada that have an international mission.
