Following the recent 50th anniversary of the Gideon v. Wainwright decision, public defenders and the hardships surrounding this type of work has been a prominent topic of discussion within the legal community. With this in mind the New England Journal on Criminal and Civil Confinement proudly presented the 2014 paper symposium, Gideon's Army: An Account from the Front Line of Public Defense. 

Gideon's Army
is a documentary that follows the lives of three young public defenders who practice in some of the most challenging and financially strained jurisdictions. The film portrays their struggles and triumphs within the legal system, while providing an eye-opening perception of the challenges faced by public defenders all over the country.
 
Since its first screening, Gideon's Army has been praised for its candid representation of the harsh realities of public defense work. The film has been honored at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, the 2013 Miami International Film Festival, and the 2011 Tribeca Film Institute, among others.
