Barrister's Ball to Follow
A graduate of Yale University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Howard Dean practiced family medicine in Vermont before beginning his political career in 1982. He served as state representative, lieutenant governor, and then governor for 12 years, the second longest serving in state history. As governor he was known for his fiscal responsibility and his efforts in health care reform, and he served as chairman of the National Governors Association, the Democratic Governors Association, and the New England Governors' Conference.
Governor Dean was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2005 to 2009, creating the “50 State Strategy” and developing updated campaign tools. The founder of Democracy for America, he is viewed as a pioneer of Internet-based political fundraising and grassroots campaigning. He currently works as an independent consultant and as a CNBC contributor.
In 1958, President Eisenhower proclaimed the first Law Day a “day of national dedication to the principle of government under law.” New England Law | Boston has celebrated Law Day with events and speakers since 1970. Past Law Day speakers have included U.S. Supreme Court Justices Harry Blackmun, Anthony M. Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg; United States Attorney General Janet Reno; U.S. Senator John F. Kerry; Dr. Hans Blix, and U.S. Senator Scott Brown.
