How to Become a Member
New Associate Members of the Law Review are selected through the annual Summer Writing Competition. The competition is open to all New England Law | Boston students who have earned at least thirty-one academic credits and who have at least one full year of study remaining in their degree program. Most students participate in the Summer Writing Competition after their 1L Day or 2L Evening year.
A student's entry to the Summer Writing Competition is a memorandum based on a problem provided by the Law Review Editorial Board. A student may also have to complete a "technical" exercise intended to evaluate competence with a citation manual.
The entries are evaluated anonymously by the Editors of the Law Review, and are scored on organization, grammar and style, and citation accuracy. Scoring for the competition is weighted according to the entrants’ grade point average. GPA accounts for 65% of total score, and the entry accounts for the remaining 35% of the total score. Only students in the top 50% of their division are eligible for membership in the Law Review.
The Law Review will invite the entrants with the highest total scores to become Associate Members of the Law Review. Traditionally, thirty to thirty-five members are invited to join.
