Helpful Info - Boston Transportation

THE "T"

One of the best things about Boston is how easy it is to get around the city. The subway system, referred to by locals as the "T" is easy to use and will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go in the city.

The only thing to keep in mind is which direction you are going. Luckily, you only have two choices: INBOUND or OUTBOUND. If you are heading into the city, you need to follow the signs to catch the inbound train. If you are leaving the city, you are heading outbound.

Included in your materials is an application for a Semester T-Pass, available to you at a discounted rate. Order forms and checks are due in the Student Bar Association (SBA) Office on the 5th floor by the date and time listed on the form. If no one is in the office, you may drop your payment in the white lock box to the left of the SBA office door.

Your SBA Representatives will announce when T-Passes are available to pick up each month. Your first pass will be for October.  Spring semester passes will be made available before winter break.

In the meantime

MONTHLY SUBWAY passes are $44.00. They are sold the last four and the first four days of each month. You can purchase monthly subway passes at all subway stations in Boston and many other locations, including Suffolk Bookstore. The MBTA's website has a complete list of alternative sales locations by city region.

MONTHLY COMBO passes are $71.00. They, too, are sold the last and first four days of each month. You can purchase monthly combo passes at most subway stations in Boston (Gov't Center, Park Street, Downtown Crossing, Haymarket, North Station, Kenmore, and South Station). You may purchase a monthly combo pass with cash, Master Card, or Visa ONLY.

Finally, WEEKLY COMBO passes are $18.50. The current week's pass is sold Sunday through Wednesday and the following week's pass is sold Thursday and Friday at the collector's booth of the following stations: Gov't Center, Park Street, Haymarket, and Kenmore. Weekly combo passes may be purchased with cash ONLY.

All Passes can be purchased online at the MBTA's website

TAXIS

Unfortunately, the "T" only runs until 1am, leaving you with taxis as your only option to get home after a late night out.

When the "T" has stopped running or if you're in a hurry, you can use the following taxi services to get where you need to go:

  • Boston Cab: 617-536-5010
  • Checker Cab in Boston: 617-536-7000
  • Checker Cab in Cambridge: 617-497-1500
