Animal Law Society
WHAT IS ANIMAL LAW SOCIETY ALL ABOUT?
ALS trip to Maple Farms in Fall '09
Animal Law Society (ALS) was created to promote awareness of Animal Law, which encompasses statutes and case law related to animals or with an animal component. The organization was also created to provide opportunities on campus for students to get involved with Animal Law. The New England Law Animal Law Society is dedicated to providing a forum for education, advocacy, and scholarship aimed at protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through the legal system, and raising the profile for the field of animal law. We are affiliated with the Animal Law Defense Fund (ALDF). The activities of the New England Law Animal Law Society include: engaging in service community projects; hosting speakers, debates, and panels on current issues in animal rights and animal welfare law; networking with other law schools' animal law groups; conducting educational/awareness events such as information tables and video screenings on pertinent issues; and hosting various fundraising events. Among ALS's recent accomplishments are working towards ending greyhound racing as part of last year's MA ballot initiative, successfully petitioning for an animal law perspectives course at New England Law, and raising money for the MSPCA.
