Volunteer Opportunities

Public Service Transcript Notation Program
Beginning in the Fall, 2006 semester, students may obtain transcript recognition for appropriate public service legal work.
  • Students must perform a minimum of twenty-five hours of legal work;
  • The work must be on a volunteer basis, so students may not count work for which they receive credit or pay;
  • The program is being operated under the auspices of the Center for Law and Social Responsibility

Suffolk Lawyers for Justice, Inc. (SLJ)
is a non-profit organization responsible for administering criminal defense services to indigent persons accused of crimes in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. SLJ manages over 300 private attorneys who handle approximately ninety percent of indigent criminal defense cases in and around the Boston area. NESL students are paired with SLJ attorneys, with whom they work.
