The Women's Law Caucus is the student organization at New England School of Law devoted to gender issues in law and society. The WLC is committed to promoting equality among women and men by maintaining projects and events that seek to educate, inform and provide services for the benefit of the NESL community and Boston area at large. The Caucus is non-profit, non-commercial, non-sectarian and non-partisan.
The following Women's Law Caucus projects are examples of our advocacy and outreach efforts:
Sexual Violence Legal News — An online newsletter that keeps service providers aware of the most current court decisions involving sexual violence cases. WLC members summarize the issues affecting criminal and evidentiary procedures in these cases.
Judicial Language Project — An online database that tracks language used by judges in their court opinions when describing criminal acts of sexual abuse. WLC members critique and analyze problematic and appropriate word choices.
NESL Follies & Roast — The organization's main fundraising event of the year, the student body is given the opportunity to roast participating faculty members at their own expense.
The Mary Jo Frug Grant — In memory of NESL professor Mary Jo Frug, a WLC Committee awards a stipend to the student applicant whose summer employment best embodies the work and passions of Mary Jo Frug.
Film Festival — Several nights per semester are devoted to screening carefully selected movies in conjunction with the library staff and other student organizations.
