Professional Background

E. Marie Guthrie has worked in various practice areas throughout her career. She first worked for a boutique firm practicing criminal defense; while there, she gained admission to the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts, as well as the First Circuit Court of Appeals. Her subsequent positions were at an immigration firm and then a personal injury and products liability firm. Finally, Marie found her dream job: leveraging her legal practice to serve LGBTQIA2S+ clients. Because of her varied background, Marie has had experience in a wide range of courts (state and federal, including briefs submitted to SCOTUS) and has had to get up-to-speed quickly in unfamiliar areas of the law. The one guiding star throughout her career has always been helping people and serving her community.

In 2025, Marie opened Brick Legal, PLLC, to serve the queer and polyamorous communities in the areas of family law, estate planning, and probate, with a significant investment in community service and pro-bono work. Marie seeks for her clients to feel empowered by her representation to weather the significant upheaval of a family crisis and to set themselves up for a better future.
