Professor Laplante in Geneva.
January 24, 2017: Professor Lisa Laplante recently participated in the UN’s 2016 Forum on Business and Human Rights, held in Geneva, Switzerland. Laplante directs the Center for International Law and Policy, which oversees a project enabling New England Law | Boston students to join the worldwide effort to hold corporations accountable for actions that negatively impact human rights.
The UN Forum is the world's largest annual gathering on business and human rights, with some 2,300 participants from government, business, community groups and civil society, law firms, investor organizations, UN bodies, National Human Rights Institutions, trade unions, academia, and the media.
“This year’s forum focused on international investment law,” said Laplante. “Students will benefit through analysis of this and related issues in the law school’s Business Compliance and Human Rights course.
“More generally, the forum helped raise awareness of New England Law’s work in this area,” said Laplante. “We plan to leverage our enhanced profile and connections by developing additional practice-in-the-field opportunities for students, including assisting projects in the international community.”
