STUDENT COMPLAINTS – ABA STANDARD 510
As an ABA-accredited law school, New England Law | Boston (the “law school”) is subject to the ABA Standards for Approval of Law Schools. The ABA Standards may be found at: http://www.americanbar.org/groups/legal_education/resources/standards.html
(a) Filing a Formal Complaint
Pursuant to ABA Standard 510, any student at the law school who wishes to bring a formal complaint to the administration of the law school “of a significant problem that directly implicates New England Law | Boston’s program of legal education and its compliance with the ABA Standards” shall do the following:
- Submit the complaint in writing to an Associate Dean or the Director of Student Services (the “Administrator”). The complaint may be submitted by email, U.S. mail, hand delivery, or fax.
- Include specific details, including:
- The appropriate ABA Standard at issue
- A detailed description of the behavior, program, process, or other matter that is the subject of the complaint
- An explanation of how the matter implicates the law school’s program of legal education and its compliance with a specific ABA Standard(s)
- Provide contact information, including:
- Name
- Official law school email address
- Street address
(b) Complaint Review Process
When an Administrator receives a student complaint that complies with the above requirements, the following procedures shall be followed:
- Acknowledgment of Complaint
The Administrator will acknowledge receipt within three (3) business days. Acknowledgment may be made by email, U.S. mail, or hand delivery. - Response Timeline
Within two (2) weeks of acknowledgment, the Administrator will either meet with the complaining student or respond to the complaint in writing. The student will receive either a substantive response or information regarding steps being taken to address or investigate the complaint. - Appeals Process
Appeals may be submitted to the Dean. The Dean’s decision is final. - Recordkeeping
A copy of the complaint and a summary of the process and resolution will be maintained in the Office of the Dean for at least the duration of the most recent accreditation period.
